Resonate Testing Expands EV/Off-Road and Utility Vehicles Battery Testing Capabilities

Company Invests in Largest Shaker Table in Ireland

NEWRY based company, Resonate Testing has taken delivery of a £200,000 shaker table that will enable them to significantly expand capabilities for large EV/off-road and utility vehicles battery testing, of up to 1,200Kg and sized to accommodate battery packs up to three metres, making it the largest shaker table in Ireland and positioned to support the deployment of larger battery packs in a wide range of automotive, industrial and marine application.

The recent addition, will increase the company’s battery testing capabilities, making it one of a few select facilities in the UK and Ireland that can undertake this type of testing.

This specialist equipment is used to test the vibration and shock resistance of EV components, particularly battery packs, simulating the harsh vibrations and shocks components experience during real-world driving conditions, allowing manufacturers to assess the durability and reliability of EV batteries before they are installed.  In many instances, it is a case of demonstrating that battery systems comply with a range of internal, national and international quality standards which is essential when designing, building and crucially deploying battery packs to industry and consumers alike.  Resonate Testing, as a test facilitator, has a role to play.

Tom Mallon, Managing Director at Resonate Testing said: “This is a pivotal moment for Resonate Testing with this latest development elevating our capabilities, demonstrating to customers that we can provide alternatives to the much larger incumbent labs in the UK.  In addition to simulating the vibrations that EV battery packs and components endure, we can also test under challenging conditions such as crush, fire, extreme heat and cold to ensure reliability and endurance.  Battery packs are getting larger, more sophisticated and we can be assured of their deployment in increasingly harsh environments.  The demand for battery abuse testing is set to grow significantly.”

The EV sector is growing locally with the Department for Infrastructure reporting last year that there were over 30,000 EVs on the road, more than double the number in the past two years, which was a key factor in Resonate Testing’s decision to invest in expanding its expert resources.

“Given the upward trajectory in the number of battery systems being deployed across many industries and sectors, the ability for both local and regional manufacturers to avail of our new state-of-the-art testing facilities has never been more important,” Tom added. “This will make the process more accessible and ensure the consistent performance of EV components and we anticipate a significant increase in the number of batteries tested in our facility over the next two years.”

Resonate Testing has been in operation for over ten years and continues to lead the way in providing comprehensive testing at its facilities.  Earlier this year the company invested nearly £500,000 to establish the first battery testing facility on the island of Ireland.  This milestone expansion positions Resonate Testing at the forefront of certified lithium battery testing, catering to industries including eBikes, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and the space and medical sectors.

Representatives from the company are attending the SMMT Meet the Buyer event taking place on 4th June 2025 at the NEC, Birmingham where they will showcase the new shaker table testing capabilities at Resonate Testing.
