How Can We Help?
Military and Defence products operate in harsh environments and rough terrain, if a product does not live up to specific protocols and standards, the ending result could be catastrophic for both the product in use and the personnel using it.
We have the capability to test;
- • Ground vehicle components
- • Aircraft components
- • Electrical systems and subsystems
- • Mechanical assemblies and components
Our state-of-the-art vibration & shock and fire laboratories can put your product to the test during its developmental phase to ensure that it is reliable, durable, and ready for action. To make a query or to get in contact with us, Click Here.
How Can We Help?
The aerospace industry is constantly adapting, companies are racing to create the safest, fastest, cleanest, and most comfortable aircraft. As the industry changes, so are we. We are creating innovative and thorough test practices to ensure aircrafts and all their components remain durable, reliable, and abide by all industry regulations/guidelines.
During take-off, while in flight, and when landing; aerospace products such as fixed wing aircrafts, jets, turboprops, and helicopters are subject to vibrations, shocks, temperature changes, and even pressure fluctuations. Over time, these environmental factors wear down aerospace components, create noise, and can even displace vital engine components, wing parts, and/or electrical systems; which are detrimental to both the aircraft and its operator.
Our in-house fire laboratory offers extensive fire and flammability tests using the following equipment;
- • Kerosene oil burners (a Standard modified gun oil burner and the new NexGen Sonic burner, both of which meet FAA and EASA test standards/requirements)
- • Multi-purpose flammability test cabinet
The extensive capabilities we offer with fire & flammability testing range from, but are not limited to, certification of engine components, interior cabins, cargo compartments/panels, and materials such as aircraft seat cushions.
Our vibration testing laboratory features an elecrodynamic vibration table (IMV EM2605/SA7M-VST1200/600) capable of a wide range of frequencies, amplitudes, and spectrums that we can use to test your product and ensure it meets either industry standards set out by the FAA or customer specific ones. All road vehicles experience large amounts of vibrations in varying forms during start-up and while in use. This includes transportation trucks, busses, military vehicles, and automotives. Vibration and shock can surmount to detrimental damage to an automotive’s mechanical and electrical components such as radios, GPS’s, engines, and seat frames. We can test the mechanical and electrical components using sinusoidal & random vibrations and by replicating life lock shocks with our IMV EM2605/SA7M-VST1200/600 electrodynamic vibration test system that is capable of producing a wide range of frequencies, amplitudes, and vibrations.
Alternatively to component failure caused by vibration and shock, automotives have components that are highly combustible such as upholstery, seat belts, aluminium frames, fluid containers, etc. We can test the fire resistance of such components with either of our oil burners (modified & NexGen Sonic) approved by the FAA & EASA, or we can test using our FAA approved flammability chamber capable of vertical, horizontal, and 45 degree testing. We are able to test to a number of automotive standards and due to the experience of our employees, we offer robust fixture designs to ensure appropriate testing of a variety of components to the specifications required. While in operation and during transportation, MedTech devices are subjected to various vibrations and shocks. These devices can be very expensive making it a priority that they remain durable and reliable.
Putting money aside, it is also imperative that these products remain in working order to ensure they work properly while in operation, no matter how minor or major the procedure it being used for. There are a number of vibration and fire standards that must be met during a products developmental phase. Our state-of-the-art in-house testing laboratory can reproduce the most complicated vibration and shock profiles to bespoke testing to industry as well as customer specific standards. Electronic devices experience vibrations and shocks during transportation and in operation. Temperature and vibration are the two most influential factors that determine whether a product arrives in working condition.
In order to test the durability and reliability of electronic and mechanical devices in transit, our IMV EM2605/SA7M-VST1200/600 electrodynamic vibration test system replicates swept sine & random vibrations as well as life-like shocks to see if such products are up to industry and consumer specific standards. The InterTradeIreland Fusion Project
The project, supported by InterTradeIreland under the Fusion programme (now known as the Innovation Boost programme), aims to develop a joint fire & mechanical testing service of advanced composite materials on the island of Ireland.
Throughout our partnership with Composites Testing Laboratory (CTL) in the Republic of Ireland we can offer a different range of mechanical testing to accompany our fire and flammability services.
CTL is a wholly owned subsidiary owned by ÉireComposites Teo in Inverin Galway. CTL was established as an accredited testing laboratory for advanced composite materials and is the only independent test within in EU specialising in compost materials testing providing mechanical, environmental and physical testing as well as world class static, fatigue and impact testing.
CTL offer customers a fast, flexible and cost competitive service which includes testing in the aerospace, renewable energy, automotive, medical device and space sectors. CTL is ISO 17025 and NADCAP approved testing laboratory.
CTL Composites offer a wide range of testing including static, fatigue, environmental, physical, thermal and microsection testing. CTL have the necessary skills and capabilities to carry out testing for all types of test programmes including:
• First Part Qualifications
• Design Allowable Campaigns
• Material Qualifications
• Process Control
• Research and Development
CTL test to all recognised international standards – EN, ASTM, ISO and SRM. Testing to OEM specific specifications such as BATS and AITM is also available. Below is a snapshot of the tests we perform:
• Tension (OHT and FHT)
• Compression (OHC and FHC)
• In-Plane Shear
• V-Notch Shear
• Flexure (Monolithic and Sandwich)
