Meet the Team: Olivia McAvoy

Next up in our Meet the Team series is our graduate engineer, Olivia McAvoy! Find out more about Olivia below:

Q1. Name

Olivia McAvoy

Q2. Position

Graduate Engineer

Q3. Length of time working for the company

7 months

Q4. What is your background?

I graduated from Queens University Belfast in July 2020 with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering (MEng).

Q5. Favourite part of the job?

I love that I do something different each day, this makes the job exciting and enjoyable. I feel like I am always learning something new!

Q6. What does a typical day involve?

As I have said before, there is always something I do different each day. However, a typical day involves the following:

  1. A meeting with the whole team at 9am, discussing everyone’s plans for the day
  2. Getting data and paper work prepared for any upcoming testing
  3. Writing reports for testing which has just finished
  4. Gathering data and getting it ready to present to customers
  5. Conducting tests (usually via Zoom or WebEx due the current situation) and liaising with customers
  6. Checking in test items or instrumentation

Q7. What opportunities have you been given as a member of the team at Resonate Testing?

As I joined Resonate Testing in the middle of a global pandemic, I haven’t had opportunity to travel for work yet. Although, Tom has offered me a great opportunity to conduct some R&D which I will be presenting at the FAA Conference in Atlantic City in 2021 (if Covid-19 allows).

However, Tom and the team at Resonate Testing has often gave me great opportunities to lead and run engineering tests with well-known customers. Opportunities like this have taken me out of my comfort zone and have developed my confidence, as a Graduate Engineer, greatly.

Q8. How do you like to relax outside of work?

I like to go to the gym, it often takes my mind away from any stress and gets me out of the house, and I think this is especially important on days where I am working from home. As gyms have been closed, I try to walk every day, even if it is 15 minutes during my lunch break.

Q9. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself

I have accumulated approximately 25 hours of flying lessons
