We're delighted that following the UKAS audit of our fire procedures, covering aircraft power plant, seat burn, and cargo liner requirements, we have now been granted ISO 17025 Testing Certification for Fire Testing, adding to our test certification for Flammability, Vibration and Shock Test Types.

Whilst updating our literature and website, we will be using the ILAC MRA Mark in conjunction with the UKAS symbol.

ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) is the international authority on laboratory and inspection body accreditation, with a membership consisting of accreditation bodies and stakeholder organisations throughout the world.  UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is one of 90 accreditation bodies that have signed the ILAC Arrangement to promote the acceptance of accredited test, calibration and inspection data and results; and is the sole national accreditation body recognised by UK government.

Resonate Testing Ltd is a UKAS accredited Test House to ISO/IEC 17025:2005.  For a detailed list of accredited testing, please click here.’

The Newry Reporter, Newry Democrat, Armagh-Down Observer and Ulster Gazette all report on the winners of the Shake, Rattle & Roll competition.

Our Lady's Grammar, Newry secured themselves an opportunity of a lifetime by winning a trip to the UK Space Agency when they won the 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' schools competition sponsored by Resonate Testing.

The 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' competition, which was endorsed by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA), invited pupils aged 14-16 from across Northern Ireland to demonstrate their STEM skills by designing and building a cantilever structure representative of an Aircraft wing box.

The structure was then set up on the Resonate Testing vibration system and exposed to a 20G vibration environment.  Our Lady's Grammar structure won by lasting the full test duration - and they were announced as the inaugural 'Shake, Rattle & Roll' champions.

The UK Accreditation Service is the sole approval body for ISO17025, a specialist test house standard which is recognised internationally. Whilst the basis of the standard is common to many quality systems, 17025 varies in that applicants must apply for specific test types which are listed within the final approval - These are the types which we can then issue a certified test report to. As part of the auditing process the UKAS reviewers will witness a sample test of each type to ensure that work instructions and processes meet the required standards.

At Resonate we have applied for test types covering Fire & Flammability and Vibration & Shock Testing. Back in September we completed a 2 day audit which covered the main business criteria as well as the review of our flammability, vibration & shock test methods. Following this we have now been granted our certification for vibration & shock test types.

In early November the audit of our fire procedures took place covering aircraft power plant, seat burn, and cargo liner requirements – These are in line with the FAA Fire Test Handbook standards which we have designed our fire lab to meet. This audit went well and we expect to have the additional tests added to our certification in the next couple of weeks.

Our new and innovative Shake, Rattle & Roll competition aimed at 14-16 year old students was officially launched on Monday, 3 October 2016.  In conjunction with CCEA, Mary Kelly, our Test House Manager, took part in proceedings at Armagh Planetarium, kicking off World Space Week.

Shake, Rattle & Roll is an exciting opportunity for Northern Ireland students to take part in a practical challenge that will develop further understanding and interest in STEM subjects and engineering.  The competition will inform students on the importance of testing during product development for structural integrity issues such as vibration, acoustics and strength.

"We are delighted to be hosting this competition and hope it provides a practical and challenging engineering task.  We very much look forward to welcoming the students to our Newry facilities for a hands on day of testing and engineering demonstrations.  The competition is intended to inspire the next generation of talented technicians and engineers, who are vital for the long term success of our business and the sector locally."

- Michael Thompson, General Manager

One of the main units in our Level 2 qualification in Space Science Technology, focuses on the role of the aerospace industry (specifically in Northern Ireland) and how it impacts the local and global economies.  Students learn about composite materials and their application within aerospace technologies.  Shake, Rattle, & Roll is an exciting competition because it gives students the opportunity to demonstrate this understanding in a controlled scenario at the Resonate Testing Ltd. facilities.”

- Justin Edwards, CCEA’s CE

What's involved?

Students will design and build a cantilever structure representative of an Aircraft wing box section.  The structure will need to span a certain length while being capable of supporting a mass of known quantity.

The structure will then be set up on the Resonate Testing vibration system, instrumented with accelerometers by Resonate Testing engineers and exposed to a vibration environment.  The structure will SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL!

Whoever designs the cantilever structure which lasts the longest WINS!

ISO17025

Over the last 6 months we have been working towards gaining UKAS accreditation under ISO17025 for a range of Fire, Vibration and Flammability test services.  A full Quality Management system has been developed to manage every aspect of the business and technical function with heavy supplementary documentation incorporating procedures, test methods, work instructions, risk assessments and templates.

On 6th and 7th September we successfully completed the first half of the ISO17025 UKAS audit for Vibration and Flammability test services.  After receiving a very positive assessment report and only a small number of actions requiring attention, partial grant is expected late October 2016.

The second half of the UKAS audit is scheduled for early November to assess our Fire Test capabilities.

Full ISO17025 accreditation is expected by the end of the year.  This will be a key milestone and achievement for Resonate Testing Ltd as we place quality at the core of our test and customer services.
